Tiny House Day To Day AND Other Things I Bet You Didn’t Know

Scroll down to content

Things you might not know unless you live in a Tiny house. The house does need to be cleaned and yes the dishes take just as long as they did before. Same for laundry.

BUT because I have less stuff and less space it takes me less time to clean it.

BUT I have to clean it more often because it gets dirtier faster.

Now that the weather is getting colder I’m also finding things out about heating this little space.

The upstairs can be hot but the downstairs is still cool and often have to come down in the middle of the night to shut it off

I can run the heater in 30 degree weather for 2 hours in the morning and the house will still be warmish when I get home from work in the evening.

A 10 gallon hot water tank is plenty for 1 or two people.

People don’t come to visit because they don’t think there is room to sit and visit.

There is room to sit and visit, as a matter of fact I have a wrap around couch.

Its cramped

I have cathedral ceilings .

There’s no privacy

Noah and I have separate lofts, if I need space I just go sit on the porch or lay on my bed and read. Still being able to see and hear Noah at all times PERFECT .

There is no room for storage.

I struggled with trying to figure out that piece but after actually living here for a few months and having time to think about it there is plenty of space. There eventually will be drawers under the couch and there space for storage in both mine and Noah’s loft. For bigger things or out of season cloths all I have to do is to put it in a tighly sealed tote and I can store it under the house. I have plenty of cupboard and cabinet space.

What to do with the ladder !

This is the one problem that perplexed me and I finally solved it. Hopefully I will be posting some pictures soon because it is going to be super cool.

Breaking it down, our lives have only changed in the since that we have less stuff, stuff we didn’t need anyway. Less bills that I didn’t want to pay.  I also been able to express myselfmore creativity without the restrictions of apartment living.

If there is something you were wondering about living in a tiny house feel free to ask in the comments below.

  1. I stayed in a tiny house in September for 2 nights on a mini vacation. I loved it! I did notice the temperature differences between the loft and lower levels though; we had the fan on which kept the loft comfortable to sleep, but it was much cooler downstairs.

Question – Do you find you’re going to the grocery store more often? In trying to analyze how I would arrange things I felt like I’d be limited on stock piling extra groceries like I tend to now. We always have an “extra” of something, for example a jar of jelly in the fridge and one in the cupboard or several boxes of cereal.

    1. I have a full size refrigerator and we try to eat mostly fresh food so out side of some seeds, spices, oat meal, flour ,peanut butter and some pita bread we don’t have a lot of food that stores well outside the fridge any way but I do have quit a bit of storage and have as much cabinet space as I did in my three bedroom plus wall shelves to store dishes and jars. I could easily store several months of food here if I needed to 🙂
